I was once boarding a plane crossing the Atlantic, a bright and bouncy 19 year old out for adventure, the stars in my eyes obvious to even a young child who turned to her mother and said in Spanish, “poor girl, she’s all alone mummy.” I was struck by her mother’s reply and really wish I’d taken it on board and not wasted the following 26 years married to man I continually failed to ‘make happy’. She said, “better alone than in bad company.” Thank you Spanish lady for spreading wisdom, you never know when someone will finally get it and continue your good work. Just say it.
