I remember my grandmother telling me about a party her parents held when she had just 13. Her mother came across her being chatted up by a much older man and challenged him saying “she’s only 13 you know?” His reply was “it’s ok I’m not superstitious.” He carried on regardless and there seemed to little else her mother felt she could do. I know what I would do nowadays and it wouldn’t involve being polite.
